The Joys of Owning a Dog

Owning a dog can be a satisfying and rewarding experience. They are loving companions that can provide protection, entertainment, or both. Many dogs are treated as though they were members of the family. They are trained to assist humans in certain tasks and to perform certain duties. Some dogs act as watchdogs. In some homes, the dog will even stay overnight at a residence.

There are many varieties of dogs. They come in many sizes, shapes, colors, breeds, and weights. Dog owners can choose from terriers, which are smaller than other breeds; Dobermans, which are medium sized; Old English Sheepdogs, which are heavier and sturdier than the American Kennel Club's Working Terrier; Beagles, which are very small, compact dogs; and Poodles, which are tiny, adorable dogs. Some dogs are registered with the American Kennel Club, while others are not.

The word "dog" itself derives from the Old French phrase, "Dog du lac." This is where the modern day dog came from. In ancient times, a dog was used to protect the village child from dogs or other threats. If a person attacked by another dog, the dog responsible would be beaten or die in the place of the child. The purpose of this was to protect children from harm.

A dog is not a service dog, or a pet. It does not provide love or companionship. A dog on a leash is just there for its own purposes, and that means it should not be criticized. A dog belongs at the side of the owner, not at the foot of every family member. A dog should be well-behaved and should not be allowed to harm other people or animals.

While it may seem cruel to consider a dog vicious, it is often the case. Dogs have been known to bite someone to protect its owner, or to simply get back at the owner who had it bite someone. Dogs also sometimes have a natural instinct to bite when they are defending themselves. However, most dogs do not cause physical harm. They may bite an intruder if they are frightened but otherwise will not do harm to anyone.

Owning a dog can be a wonderful experience. They can provide companionship and friendship, as well as protection from potential dangers. A dog must be properly trained to do these things, and be thoroughly immunized. Remember to always treat your dog right and you will have a wonderful dog companion.

Dog training can be accomplished in a variety of ways. There are programs available from the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Canine Research Institute, and the American Kennel Club. These organizations have books and websites that offer information that can be read and used. You can also join a local doggie club in your area for additional support and training.

An important part of training your dog is obedience training. Obedience training will allow your dog to be obedient without punishment. Your dog should not be yelled at or punished in any way when you disagree with his actions. Be firm in your stance and remind your dog of the consequences of his actions often.

The best thing about training your dog is to you and your dog will come a very long way together. You will learn to share and play with your pet. Your dog will learn to obey your commands and follow your lead. You will both love to have this special bond and communication will become much easier.

Do not let your dog out of your sight for prolonged periods of time. If you live alone and constantly walk your dog, he may develop separation anxiety. This means that when you are away, your dog will either seek ways to be alone or might show aggression to other dogs. Your dog will need constant companionship to remain happy and healthy.

A good rule of thumb is to have at least one item in your house that is made from hard plastic that cannot be chewed, like a tote bag or a towel. If you want to discourage paw chewing on cushions and furniture, buy a soft shock collar for your dog and have it attached to the end of its leash at all times. You can also use this same method whenever you go to make visits to your house. Puppy chewing - These small breeds are a handful and if left to their own devices, will chew on virtually anything. They usually bite on their teething rings and other objects that are stuck between their teeth, but you'll probably see them chew on things around the house as well. This behavior can be quite frustrating because most people tend to think of teething as a problem enco
